New Year's Eve Day!

A quiet day - we went to the grocery store for snack to eat during the day - that's our celebration! We're saving the jumbo shrimp for later! We'll be watching TV tonight - might turn on the coverage of Time Square. A friend of ours is supposed to be there - we told him to wave at the cameras! :-)

Did I Mention?

We've been watching movies. What did we do before TV? Listen to the radio, I guess. Jeff called this morning - he and family have been without power since Sunday - it just came back on today. Since we didn't have a snow storm, it must have been caused by the strong winds we've been experiencing. Glad we live in town, our power did flicker a couple of times on Sunday, nothing serious.

Mondays!

Shopping day - we first stopped at Wal-Mart. I have wanted a canister vacuum cleaner for awhile, looked at them, found one, bought it. Now I have to clean! :-( Anyway - from there we did our grocery shopping - didn't find anything exciting - don't have plans yet on what to have for dinner on New Year's Day.

Looks like another day/evening of watching movies - all are chick flicks - can you hear Bruce groaning?

Raining!

What a dreary day - much of the snow has melted. Jeff called this morning - seems he is having problems with his plow!

Slip, Sliding Away!

I went out the back door this morning and almost fell on my butt. Overnight, we had freezing rain - ground is covered with ice, but it's supposed to warm up during the day.

It's turned into a quiet day - watching movies, folding laundry - exciting, eh?

Today is Boxing Day!

For those who don't know what this holiday is, I copied a description off the internet. I had never heard of it before moving to Canada!

In Australia and Canada, Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday, and a time where stores have sales, often with dramatic price decreases. For many merchants, it has become the day of the year with the greatest revenue. In recent years, this has been expanded to "Boxing Week". While Boxing Day is actually on 26 December, many retailers who hold Boxing Day Sales will run the sales for several days before or after 26 December, often up to New Year's Eve.
In some areas of Canada, particularly in
Atlantic Canada and parts of Northern Ontario, most retailers are prohibited by law from opening on Boxing Day. In these cases, any sales specifically scheduled for December 26 are moved to the 27th.

We going to Canadian Tire to see what sales we can find.

I didn't take any pictures yesterday, we had a nice quiet day. Bruce called Rob in the morning, he was heading out the door on his way to work. Rick called later, his kids were excited about Christmas and their presents. We enjoyed a small breakfast in the morning, shrimp cocktail as an early afternoon appetizer, and for dinner - prime rib with roasted potatoes. Of course later on, we indulged in cherry pie and lemon sponge pie. We do have leftovers which we'll be working on today.

In the evening, we watched a movie - Batman: The Dark Knight. Bruce was disappointed in the movie - since Batman only comes out at night, a lot of the film was in the dark - hard to see what was happening. Between the two of us we gave it a '6.' Movie was almost three hours long. Never did get to watch the chick flick.

Christmas Eve Day!

A busy day. Bruce zesting a lemon for lemon sponge pie - it's his mother's recipe.

Jeff stopped by for a rum and coke.

Christmas Past!

Rick showing off his homemade gun.

Jackie preparing the Christmas meal!

Fred trying to decide just what to eat - everything looks sooo good!

Opening presents -

After a few days in Granby, we were off to Ogunquit, Maine.

Motel where we stayed - it looked very festive with all its Christmas lights!

We couldn't believe that this fellow was out there surfing in the freezing ocean. It made us cold just watching him.

Cape Neddick Light House in York, Maine.

One of my favorite pictures.

Heading back home, we stopped at Anheuser-Busch for a tour. And even got to sample some of their newest beer.

Bruce enjoying the Christmas decorations in the lounge.

Warm and cozy.

Bruce next to the semi.

Although I'm allergic to horses, I couldn't pass up going into the horse barn to see the Clydesdales. This is Charlie. What awesome animals. Love those Bud commercials.

Thermal Underwear Needed Today!

The storm didn't amount to much, but Bruce had about three inches of fresh snow to remove. Sun is shining, so it should be a good day although it's really cold. We had to venture out to do some grocery shopping. The wind was brutal.

I have barbecue ribs in the oven - will be cooking them all day. They are looking pretty tasty.

I know I've posted snow pictures before, but here are some more!

Another Cold One!

On his morning walk, Bruce stopped at the grocery store and picked up a couple of prime rib roasts. I guess that settles it - we're having one for Christmas dinner.

Last night I made another home made pizza, but I've got to do some research on pizza sauce - would like one with a little more bite to it. Does anyone have a favorite recipe they'd like to share?

Where's that Camera When You Need It?

Bruce came in from his morning walk. He said he had to jump over a train to get home!! Seems the train that goes right through the center of town had hit a small car, everything had come to a halt. Police everywhere. A few months ago, another train had hit a semi when the driver didn't look back at his trailer to see exactly where he had parked it while he ran into the convenience store. Wonder if the town will start thinking about putting up a gate to stop oncoming traffic when a train is approaching.

These are pictures I took a few weeks ago - the first one is blurry, but it gives a general idea of what the area looks like.

Clean Up Day

Road equipment was out this morning clearing snow from the sides of the streets.

Yesterday I bought some Christmas wreaths for our front and back door. Don't you think they look rather festive?

Another Six Inches of Snow Overnight!

Bruce was busy this morning blowing snow off our driveway and the neighbors. Almost like having a full time job.

I thought I'd post some pictures from a previous Christmas - we spent a few days in Newport, RI way back in 2004. What a neat place - so much to see and do. While we were there, it snowed - seems Newport hadn't had that much snow in years. We visited some of the mansions and also took a ride around Ocean Drive where we saw the washed up whale. So sad.

Back in the Deep Freeze!

Not much happening today - just waiting for Christmas. Trying to decide what to have for dinner on Christmas day - prime rib or turkey. I think Bruce is leaning towards the beef. Still have several days to decide.

Has This Happened to You?

Monday is our grocery shopping day. We shop at a store that charges you for plastic bags or you can buy bins in which to carry out your groceries. You also have to bag/box your own - that's my job. One of the items would have taken up too much space in the bin so I put it back into our cart. A few seconds later, I noticed the cashier in the next aisle take out the item and put it back onto the counter with our remaining groceries to be rung up again. I thought maybe there was a coupon or something that our cashier had missed - no, she just rung it up the second time. I then spoke up and said that we had already been charged for the item. She checked the slip and - yes we had been. Moral of the story - watch everything you are being charged for. It wasn't an expensive item, but that's not the point!!

Another Snow Day!

Not much happening today - just more snow removal. And another day of fighting off my cold. Bruce wants me to chug some cold medication - YUCK!

Looking forward to the Survivor finale tonight. Hope it's Sugar or Bob. My Texas friend, Shirley, is hoping for the same.

Coldest Night Yet!

Not much to do on a cold, cold day except stay inside, keep warm and maybe watch a movie!

End of the Work Week!

In the morning, plans were to get gas for the truck and stop at Wal-Mart for a few things. However, the truck didn't start - and yes, it was cold over night. Bruce used the trailer battery to get the truck started, but as we hit the road, he noticed the battery wasn't charging. Bruce was now thinking he needed a new battery, so he dropped me back at the house and headed out. In a minute, I heard a beep at the back door, it was Bruce - he had been looking at the temp gauge instead of the battery gauge. Talk about getting lost in the bowling alley! (Have you seen that ad for alzheimer's disease?) We headed out again, this time we dropped the truck off at Canadian Tire for the battery and then walked to the neighboring store - Wal-Mart. We had about two hours to kill - we did the whole store. Smoky made out the best - cat food and treaters. Poor Bruce pushed the cart and followed me around. :-)

And the price of gas!!!!

A Bad Start to the Day!

I woke up this morning to the sound of what I thought were little footsteps on the floor. Smoky then was at my head wanting to go outside (I felt one claw go into my scalp as he tried to wake me up). He then sat on Bruce for awhile waiting. When I finally got up, he jumped off the bed happily running to the back door. Walking around the foot of the bed, I noticed something brown on the coverlet that is there for Smoky to lie on - he had hurled a hair ball. YUCK! I scooped up the cover, got my fingers in it and noticed there was some on the floor. As I gagged. I got the lysol spray and a paper towel to clean up the mess - thank goodness he missed the bed quilt! This all happened at five this morning.

Smoky was a stray when we noticed him going through the garbage in 2004. He also was surviving temperates of 25F below. We coaxed him to us with food and warm milk. Once in the house, he was ours.

Our other cat, also a stray that I had found as a kitten, was not too happy about the whole situation. She was with us until 2004 - she was the sweetest! She loved heat, so every night, I would turn on her electric throw to keep her toasty warm when it was cold.

Got Snow? Oh My!

Soon we won't have a place to pile it!

Bruce was blowing snow for hours - cleaning off our driveway, plus helping out some of the neighbors.
