Cold, Quiet Day!

Nothing exciting happening today. It's just cold!

Microsoft has a great site for searching satellite images - http://maps.live.com/

This is Massachusetts Mutual in Springfield where I used to work many years ago.

I then worked at AEtna in Hartford, Connecticut. Check out these websites for the history of this beautiful building:

It Offficially Looks and Feels Like Winter!

The wind is still blowing, the snow has stopped and the sun is out. It's cold - with the wind chill, it's 19F degrees. View is at the corner of our house looking across the street at the neighbor.

See those little foot prints leading away from the house - Smokey heading out on his morning rounds. He is usually gone for hours, however today he was back at the door wanting in after only a few minutes.

This is a nice cozy place to be on a cold day - having a cat on your lap makes it difficult to get to your computer.

A Nor'Easter is on its way!

It is cold and windy today - even Smokey is happy to be inside sleeping on one of his favorite spots!

Monday again???

Thank goodness I don't have a JOB. I'd hate Mondays. This is our grocery shopping day - just as bad, I guess. Price of gas went down four cents a liter - I should be planning a vacation now instead of waiting until next year. On NBC last night, there was a story about the low prices of lobster - that is where we should be heading now - Portland, Maine! A two pound lobster - $8.

Bruce decided to mulch the fallen leaves before the neighbors start complaining. The mower started without a problem this time.

Just saw this weather update:

THE FIRST MAJOR SNOW STORM OF THE SEASON LIKELY LATE TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT. THIS IS AN ALERT TO THE POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OF DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS.
HUMDINGER MAY NOT BE A SCIENTIFIC TERM BUT IT MAY VERY WELL SUM UP THE WEATHER THAT MOTHER NATURE HAS IN STORE FOR EASTERN ONTARIO. IT APPEARS A NOREASTER WILL BE BORN JUST OFF THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST THIS EVENING THEN INTENSIFY RAPIDLY TONIGHT AND TUESDAY BEFORE SLICING THROUGH SOUTHWESTERN QUEBEC TUESDAY NIGHT. IN ADVANCE OF THIS SYSTEM AN EXPANDING AREA OF SIGNIFICANT RAIN WILL BLOSSOM ACROSS FAR EASTERN ONTARIO ON TUESDAY BEFORE CHANGING TO HEAVY WET SNOW IN MANY AREAS BY LATE AFTERNOON OR EARLY EVENING. IN A SWATH FROM OTTAWA THROUGH RENFREW TO ALGONQUIN SIGNIFICANT HEAVY SNOW WILL LIKELY SET IN LATE TUESDAY AND CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS IN EXCESS OF 15 CENTIMETRES ARE LIKELY BEFORE IT TAPERS OFF DURING THE DAY WEDNESDAY. THE RAIN WILL LINGER IN THE EXTREME EAST ON TUESDAY..FROM CORNWALL TO HAWKESBURY..WHERE A RAINFALL WARNING IS POSSIBLE ONCE THE TRACK OF THE HEAVIEST RAIN BECOMES MORE CERTAIN. THE RAIN WILL CHANGE TO SNOW TUESDAY NIGHT IN THIS AREA. STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS OF 50 GUSTING UP TO 70 KM/H TUESDAY NIGHT IN COMBINATION WITH THE SNOW WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WITH LOW VISIBILITIES ESPECIALLY WHEN THE MERCURY EDGES JUST BELOW THE FREEZING MARK. ALSO ANY RESIDUAL LEAVES LEFT ON TREES MAY CREATE ADDITIONAL CONCERNS OF SNOW-LADEN LIMBS AFFECTING POWER LINES. THE STORM TRACK IS STILL SOMEWHAT UNCERTAIN. WINTER STORM WARNINGS AND RAINFALL WARNINGS WILL BE ISSUED AS DEEMED APPROPRIATE AS THE SITUATION UNFOLDS.

Looks like a beautiful day!

The sun had been shining and it's not too cold. Bruce decided to install a de-icer on the edge of the roof! I warned him that he'd better not fall off!

Even Smoky wanted to see what was going on!

The last of the fall flowers - I'm surprised at how pretty they still look.

The weekend is here - road trip!

I'm excited about the new GPS and want to try it out today. We'll only drive around town, but that's OK! I need to run a few errands. It's a rainy day - but not that cold! Gas prices are way down. I should plan a long trip to an interesting place. I am planning a trip to Texas next year, bet by that time the prices are sky-rocketing again.

GPS is perfect - screen is a little different than the old one, but we'll get used to it.

Before we hit the highway, we had to stop for coffee and snacks - Tim's drive-thru is usually backed up to the road.

A neighboring town - stopped at their hardware store and poked around - although they had a lot of neat stuff, we managed to get out the door without buying anything.

Back in our town (which looks similar to the neighboring one), we stopped at the drugstore to pick up my prescriptions, then headed home.

TGIF

You guessed it, I'm waiting for my GPS. This is tough work!

Bruce decided to mulch the fallen leaves - however, the mower wouldn't start!! He left to get the truck undercoated and to also stop at Canadian Tire for a plug. While Bruce was gone, the delivery man left my GPS at the back door - didn't even wait for a signature.

Back home, the mower did start, but by then it was too late to start the project. Instead we went into the kitchen and I started a pizza from scratch. The dough is still giving me a problem - sticking - but I put it together and it came out of the oven looking and tasting great. I figure practice makes perfect.

In the evening, besides playing with the GPS, we watched the new show, Crusoe - seems entertaining - I think we'll check it out every week.

Waiting for a Delivery

I received notification in the morning that my new GPS would be delivered sometime today. But by the end of the day, that never happened! Will have to wait again tomorrow.

In the afternoon, we watched the final episodes of Dexter's second season, and to catch up with what is airing on TV, we will start watching our recorded third season episodes.

Hunting season is around the corner - my brother-in-law, Fred, will be heading to Maine. Bruce and his sons will hunt around this area. Not into deer meat - ugh!

Trip Around Town -

I wanted to get my hair cut, so I was at the hairdresser's shortly after nine. I was the only one in there! This is a walk-in place, so Tori was elected to cut my hair. I made the switch from my old hairdresser a few months ago because she couldn't fit me in - the new salon is $10 cheaper - can't beat that!

Bruce figured out what was wrong with the DVD player - wrong cable to the TV. Once he had installed the proper cable and had it working, we watched four hours of "Dexter" - 2nd season.

Block Buster Day . . .

Not much happening. We might get wet snow later on - too early for me. I hate to see winter coming. I have ribs in the oven - will be tasty comfort food for later on today. Viewing the second season of Dexter this afternoon.
