Did Everyone Have a Great Christmas?

We did, although it was quiet.  We had our turkey with all the appropriate sides.  And we ate turkey for the next two days.  But that’s OK, I love turkey.  Whatever was left after that, it is frozen for soup later – maybe in 2013!

Since I always have a camera close by, I have more pictures.

Our Christmas turkey.

The view from our computer room!  Pretty soon we won’t be able to look out!

The snow is as high as the fence.  Soon there won’t be enough room to put it all.

Bruce is in this picture – you have to look close.  He’s cleaning the neighbor’s driveway.

And It Snowed!

Wow, there has to be at least 15 inches of snow on the ground.  Bruce says more snow than we had last year!

Snow!

I guess we’re now getting the predicted snow storm that is covering much of the northeast.  It’s very heavy!  Bruce is waiting until tomorrow to fully clear the driveway!

It’s an Icy Day!

Dangerous out there!  Not fit for anyone having to walk!

Still Baking, Still Eating!

Last week I made WWII Oatmeal Molasses cookies – I added some candied orange rind which was left from our fruitcake ingredients and some raisins, instead of walnuts!  Crazy good!  Will definitely make them again.  This week, I’m going to try making a date filled cookie – wish me luck!

Bruce’s annual vacuuming under the fridge.  I thought about pulling it out and washing the floor underneath, didn’t feel like scrubbing, so didn’t ask!

A Week into December Already!

I’ve become a big fan of Pinterest.  One recipe that caught my eye was how to make jalapeno poppers.  I’ve tried making them before and failed.  This recipe is simple and I think not easy to mess up.  How were they you ask?  Excellent!  Recipe definitely is a keeper.

When I was a kid, my mother made fruitcake – and I even have the recipe.  Bruce’s mom also made it.  But my mom’s recipe was for a light cake and Bruce likes a dark cake.  On Pinterest, I found a couple of recipes.  Here is our version of one.

Bruce did all the heavy stirring.  With so much fruit, this was a difficult job.  The recipe called for a tube pan, but Bruce’s mom made just a round cake.  My mother made hers in loaf pans.  We got the round cake and loaf size one from our recipe.

The small loaf cake was for sampling.  We didn’t have frosting ingredients, but I did have whipped cream.  All I can say is , “YUM.”

This is the round one just after taking it out of the oven.  We now have it wrapped in cheesecloth and foil, wondering what to do next!
