Monday! This was the day to pick up my sister and head for Maine. Once we got into New Hampshire, we found Lindt Chocolates – wow! Talk about kids in a candy store. By the time we left, we had bought about three pounds of assorted chocolates.
We also found a New Hampshire State Liquor Store – no need to elaborate on what was purchased there.
Heading north, we followed the coast and finally found our motel – Jupitor Hill Motel. Very nice. I had picked out a couple restaurants that I thought would have deals on lobsters. We drove by – they were closed. Instead of continuing our search, I mentioned going back to Warren’s Lobster House. They have a huge buffet and terrific seafood choices. The lobster was way more than I wanted to pay, so I settle on another meal – it was good, by won’t be one of my favorites. Few pictures – us and our desserts.
On Tuesday . . .
We checked the internet to see when the Kittery Trading Post opened. Nine – so off we went. My sister found a couple of tops and a fancy pair of socks. Bruce found a new leather wallet and a zippered top. Me – nothing. I pushed my sister around in a wheel chair so that she wouldn’t get tired. Think I need a few lessons on wheelchair pushing.
After the trading post, we drove to Freeport and LL Bean. We stopped for an early dinner on the way back to the motel.
Wednesday – we started back to Granby. I don’t know what our GPS was thinking, but after Gloucester, we ended up in Boston picking up the Mass Pike.
Since we were invited out for a Sunday turkey dinner, I wanted to get a yummy dessert to bring. We picked up my sister earlier than planned and headed to Northampton and my favorite bakery, La Fiorentina.
I selected some cannollis, cheese cake, and fruit tarts. We hadn’t seem Barb in many, many years, so it was fun catching up.
Still cool, but a beautiful day. We started out early, picked my sister up around 9:30 and headed to the Roadside Cafe in Belchertown. Jackie arrived soon after we did. The food was great! I ordered a banana pancake, but was only able to eat half of it. I don’t know how many times I drove by this place, never giving it a second thought. As a matter of fact, I always thought it was out of business. If looking for a breakfast place, I totally would recommend it.
After breakfast, we decided to track Wally down. I had called him several times over the past few days, but hadn’t been able to reach him. At his apartment complex, his truck was parked outside – so I would to his door and rang the bell. I could hear him inside so knew he was awake. Grumbling as he opened the door, he was glad to see me. I waved at Bruce and my sister to come on in. I took out the old Dell laptop and placed it on the table. I thought I’d possibly be able to hook up to someone’s WI-FI in order to show Wally how it worked, but that didn’t happen. He called Comcast and will get his internet router, etc., installed on Tuesday. I’ll go back to give him another lesson after that.
We left Wally’s and stopped by to visit with Andy. He’s getting over a bad cold. I’m hoping he will join us for dinner once we get back from Maine.
We headed back to the motel – I wanted to show my sister our room. She had never been to the Granby Motel. She watched a little TV, I think she also had a little snooze.
At five, we swung by Rita & Charlie’s place then drove to 99 Restaurant. The food was good, service excellent, company – priceless.
We dropped my sister off around 7:30. I think we wore her out.
We were up shortly after five and on the road by 5:45. After a stop at Tim Horton’s, we were on our way – heading for the border. It takes about two hours to get there.
At the Duty Free, I bought myself some chocolate, Bruce some rum and we headed for Customs. No problem there – where are you from, where are you going and for how long, any tobacco or alcohol – but I noticed a border guard standing in the middle of the road exiting the border gate. He pulled us over and told us to park behind another car that had already been pulled over. In back of us, they lined up another six or so cars, then they drove their X-ray truck down the side of all the stopped vehicles. I guess this was a random check of vehicles coming into the United States.
On the road again, we ran into a few snow flurries but for most of the trip it was sunny. We stopped at McDonalds for a quick lunch and were back on the road.
Crossing Hudson River.
We got off the Mass Pike in Chicopee and stopped at BJ’s Wholesale to fill up the truck. While Bruce was pumping gas, my cell phone rang – it was a representative from my M/C. She asked if I had just used my card to make a purchase? I said yes that my husband was pumping gas. I guess that was why the ‘alert’ sounded. The pump had stopped at $75. She scolded me for letting him use my card since he was not authorized. I assured her that he didn’t use my card on a regular basis, only to pump gas. Well, now they are sending Bruce his own card.

We got our room at the Granby Motel – an old motel, but neat and clean and close to my sister’s. We picked her up and headed for the Grapevine in Belchertown for lasagna. It’s her favorite.
After dinner, we tried to visit some old friends, but no one was home. We’ll try again another time before we leave.
This morning, we’re meeting Jackie for breakfast. It’s going to be a busy day.
Tomorrow we head for Massachusetts – will be gone for about eight days! I’ve packed my netbook and cameras so I should have some pictures to share over the next few days.
This is inside the Rocky Mountain House – I’ve only eaten a couple of breakfasts there, so I can’t really comment on their food. Supposedly they have the best snitzell. Hope I’m spelling that right.
Big fellow on the right is Bruce’s oldest, Rick. Grandson, Ayden is in the middle and Rick’s wife, Sherry, on the left. I kidded Ayden about his Justin Bieber haircut. Told him Justin already has a new look and he’d better get his ‘do’ updated.
Cute picture of Sherry and Ayden.
Rob must have had a rough night, looks as though he’s fallen asleep. Or did I just catch him in a blink.
And my favorite couple – yep, that’s me and Bruce.
After breakfast, we headed to the gun show in town. It was being held at the fairgrounds. We couldn't believe how many people were already there. The place had only been open about twenty minutes.
Really don't know what this display was all about. I did notice none of the deer had legs.
