A Virus Attacking Tomorrow?

I uninstalled and reinstalled my virus software. For whatever reason, although I've paid for a full year of protection, every time I install the program, it says it is the 'trial version' - expiring in 20 days. It's as good as the paid version, so I guess I'll live with it for now. I'm tired of emailing the company about my problem. No matter what instructions they give me, nothing has worked.

Another Rainy Day!

This morning we stopped at the lab to have another sample of blood taken out of my arm. At this rate, I'm not going to have much left. Still waiting to hear from the doctor on the bone marrow test taken last week.

It's dreary and cold - good day to stay warm and watch the movies on TV.

Sunday . . .

Still feeling great! Tomorrow I have to have more blood work done.

Miserable day - raining and cold. Did some much needed house cleaning.

It's the Weekend . . .

Our Alberta steaks last night were tasty - thanks Rob. It's another warmer day - so we're going to barbecue outside again! This time pork chops.

While we were waiting for our steaks to grill last night, I noticed a couple of little boys on our front lawn throwing wads of dirt at each other. Bruce went to the front door and asked them where they lived - I think they live a few houses away from us. Anyway - Bruce asked them politely to play in their own yards. I think they were startled that someone actually had opened the front door to address them. These are the same boys that wait for the school bus during the week! So far, they and their older buddies have pulled the electrical cord on the house, knocked off our forest faces that were on the trees in the front yard and broken the bottom limb on our pine tree. I'm sure they will be telling their friends on Monday about the man that lives in the house on the corner!!!!

In Case You've Been Wondering Where I've Been . . .

To go back to last weekend, I wasn't feeling great - Bruce had to do everything for me. It was a chore even to walk a few feet. During the day, I would plan out in my head just how far I'd have to walk, then what I wanted to do. Climbing the stairs was out of the question. By Tuesday evening, I told Bruce that I thought we'd better go back to the doctor. Bruce called the next day and made a morning appointment. At the doctor's, I told her how I felt, she admitted that she was at a loss as to what was wrong since my lungs were clear. She wanted me to get another chest X-ray, use my Advair Inhaler twice instead of once a day, get a pulmonary test and have blood work done. I had the blood work done immediately since the lab is next door to the doctor's office.

The next morning, the phone rang around 8:30 - it was our regular doctor. He had received a call from the lab the night before at eleven since the results of my test were so serious. I had only about 1/3 of the blood in my body that I should have. He wanted me to meet him at the hospital to have more blood work done to make sure the first test results were correct, also wanted a bone marrow test and then wanted to give me blood transfusions.

After our initial meeting with the doctor, Bruce and I walked down the hall to the lab where the nurse took out about four sticks of blood. At this point I asked for a wheel chair to get back to where our doctor was waiting to do the bone marrow test. He had previously explained it all to me - a needle to numb the area, then they stick another needle into the breast bone and I would only feel slight pressure as they took out the bone marrow. Well, that wasn't the case - I let out a scream then proceeded to moan until they were done. Thank goodness they got a good sample.

Getting dressed was a chore and after I finished, I laid back down on the table to catch my breath. The nurse came in at that time and told me I could rejoin Bruce who was waiting in the hallway. In a few minutes, the nurse informed me I would be brought upstairs to the day room for my transfusions. She asked if I wanted a wheel chair. Since the room was on another level, I quickly said yes. In the wheel chair and waiting at the elevator, I felt really bad and terribly dizzy. I heard someone yell "Stat" and I thought they were bringing me to another elevator. As the nurses were helping me onto a table and pulling my clothes off, I looked up and saw a saline drip - I thought to myself "that doesn't look like a blood transfusion." I had little stickers and wires all over me, oxygen in my nose, then someone put a warm blanket on me since I was shivering. I heard Bruce say, "if you're going to pass out, the best place is in the hospital." Pass out? Me? Of course I didn't believe him. But at that moment my BP was 84/35. After they had stabilized me, the nurses disconnected the wires then pushed the ER bed up to the day room where a nice young man, Brad - a male RN - was waiting for me. He explained what he was going to do, hooked up the unit of blood and also attached a BP cuff. One unit of blood would take about two hours to drip into me and since I was scheduled for three. I'd be there all afternoon - it was now about 11:15a.m.

Bruce was with me all this time and of course was a nervous wreck. I told him to go home since I'd be there all afternoon. He left, but came back in about an hour with a hot cup of soup and roll for me from Tim Horton's. YUM. He stayed with me for the rest of the time and read every magazine he could get his hands on.

At 3:30p.m., the day room closed so I was brought to a room in the ICU where there was room for my ER bed. With another great nurse, the third bag was hooked up. Late afternoon, our doctor stopped by to see how I was doing, he explained to us that he'd have the bone marrow test results back around the middle of next week and mentioned other tests that he planned to do.

On Monday, I have to get more blood work done - I guess to see how everything is progressing. We left the hospital at 6:45p.m. - by then we were starving. We made cold cut grinders, then settle in to watch TV. AND I couldn't believe the difference in how I felt. I now had color in my face and lips, energy, etc., and I wasn't gasping for breath after a few steps.

Today, plans are to grill a couple of Alberta steaks - and maybe whip up a salad. It's a bright sunny day!

Can't believe how quiet it is around here today. Not a thing going on!!!

Thought I'd Look Back at Some Old Pictures!

We were into tent camping on the motorcycle before upgrading to a travel trailer. On this day, we headed to Westcott Beach State Park. This park is on Lake Ontario and near Oswego, NY. Just outside of Oswego is the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Generating Station which we toured. We were in awe at how huge the plant was. The date - July 2000.

A Quiet Sunday!

Not much happening today - spending time relaxing and watching TV. Still a lot of basketball on - not into that - why do we all have to suffer during these playoffs? Seems like all the other major networks run repeats during this time . . .

Another Weekend!

Bruce went to breakfast with the 'boys.' When he came home, he realized the calories that he consumed were three times his normal amount! HA! I just had multi-grain cheerios.

The day is sunny, but cold - Jeff is putting the outside trim on his house - I think the eave troughs, too. Bruce took a drive over to see how he is making out. Once that is finished, I guess the house is pretty much done.

I've been making Stuffed Pepper Soup. My sister gave me the recipe - if you like stuffed peppers, you'd love this recipe.

One more month and we'll be heading out for our next vacation - destination Texas!

Spring is Finally Here!

Kind of a quiet day - too cold to do anything outside. But it's Friday!

A Day of Chores!

There are still a few waiting for me to tackle - fold and put away the laundry, make the bed in the front room, and clean up the kitchen. Wish I had a cleaning lady!

Ribs are in the oven - they will be cooking all day. Bruce says I make the best . . .

Surprise!!! Bruce cleaned up the kitchen for me! Gotta love that man!

Another Special Day - Happy Birthday, Bruce!!

As Bruce's special day celebration, we're having grilled prime rib steaks on the barbecue and a Caesar salad on the side. This is one of Bruce's favorite meals. The weather is cooperating, too - temperature is about 50F degrees.

It does feel like spring is just around the corner - much of the snow has melted in the area. Got my fingers crossed that the snow is now behind us. Smoky has been enjoying the warmer weather - all his 'trails' are now open to him.

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

No corn beef and cabbage here! We looked all over the store for corn beef, but couldn't find any. Did everyone buy it up over the weekend? We did however get cabbage, carrots, onions - I do have a ham in the freezer somewhere - will dig that out. We'll have our New England boiled dinner after all!!!!

It's Good to be Home, but Here's What We Did Last Week . . .

As I mentioned, we took the ferry across Lake Champlain - for $13.25 you can't beat it - saves time and gas. On this day, there were three ferries running.

During the week, we had all kinds of weather - most of the time, it was really cold. On Tuesday, we drove to Scarborough, Maine to check out Cabela's new store. Since the rest of the group were way behind us, arriving just as we were leaving, Bruce and I headed to Kittery and Warren's Lobster House. This day, the restaurant was running a special - twin lobsters for $26. YUM! I got that plus we ordered steamed clams for an appetizer. We also had access to the huge buffet.

During the week, we also ate at Muddy Moose, Moat Mountain Smokehouse and Tuckerman's Tavern. Breakfast was either at Peach's, Yesterdays, or the Blueberry Muffin.

Fred celebrating his birthday at the Muddy Moose - cake was shared by all!

A Big Gap Between Postings!

Could never seem to get my browser to launch even though we had WIFI at the condo. But we're home, arrived home yesterday around 4:30p.m. Need to organize myself, then I'll post some pictures . . .

Monday and It's Snowing in New Hampshire!

Everyone is trying to figure out what to do today. It will be more shopping and eating - just have to decide where to go.

We Made It!

It seemed to take forever to get here and we thought we were taking a shortcut by catching the ferry across Lake Champlain. Really not too much ice left on the lake. On the Vermont side, we stopped for lunch at Champ's Diner - had a huge Italian sub, Bruce had a Philly Cheese Steak sub - both excellent. We also got French fries which we couldn't finish. Cutting across the mountain, I know the name of the road, just can't spell it, but it's Route 112. We finally got to the condo around 4:45. And much to my surprise, AT&T must have put up some cell phone towers because I know have a signal for my phone. I can call everyone! How great is that.

We're waiting for the group to get their act together and we're going to Yesterday's for breakfast. After that, we do have to grocery shop and maybe stop at a few stores to check them out. LL Bean has a brand new outlet - it looks gigantic. Definitely want to go there.

As far as dinner, we're thinking the crowds should have all gone home by then. We didn't go out last night because it seemed every restaurant was full with skiers - it's been a great season this year.

But now that I know I can get a signal for Internet, I'll be able to post each day. The trick was to put the laptop as close to the condo office as I could. It's a gorgeous day and I think it's going to be a warm one. Might have to buy a light jacket - I only have my winter one. Yesterday, it was 52F degrees.

Got to Get My Act Together . . .

and start packing. We'll be leaving tomorrow morning, probably around 7:30a.m. Plans are to cross the border in Ogdensburg, then head towards Plattsburgh, NY. We'll catch the ferry across Lake Champlain into Vermont. Gee, maybe we'll see Champ, the monster of Lake Champlain. It's a 390 mile trip to North Conway, NH, we should be there around three or so.

Pictures from a previous Lake Champlain crossing:

I've Been Dragging My Feet . . .

Got to start packing! I guess that has been put off until tomorrow.

Mid-Week!

I was becoming concerned that I might not be completely healed by Saturday when we drive to North Conway, NH. I mentioned to Bruce that I planned to call the doctor on Friday to get more pills. He told me to call today instead of waiting. I called and got an appointment at eleven. Once with the doctor, I told her my concerns - that we were going away for a week and I didn't want to relapse. She told me my X-rays showed clear lungs, each day I would feel better, not to worry, and that I didn't need anymore pills.

That is good news! Especially hearing that I have clear lungs! I admit I had been worried!

Now, over the next couple of days - got to pack!!!!

Not Much Happening Today!

It's just another cold, sunny day. It was zero this morning.

Did Someone Say They Got Snow?

Not here, thank goodness. We've had enough so far this winter. I know my sister got snowed in! We're looking forward to seeing her and hubby on Saturday in New Hampshire. We get to hang out together for a week.

Downloaded some songs from ITunes this morning - Oldies. Wow, do they ever sound great. Last night on PBS, we watched a show where all these old groups were performing - it was fantastic.

Grinders Were Delicious!

I had been craving these for over a month. Tonight, burgers! Still trying to keep meals easy. I'm on my fourth full day of medication - there is improvement in my condition, but I'm not 'perfect' yet. Bruce is great - he's always there to help me.

Rob is heading back to Calgary today - flies out of Ottawa at 7:30 this evening. Bye Rob!!!! When are you moving back to Ontario???????
