A Trip into Ottawa is Always Fun!

Last year, a new IKEA store opened in Ottawa.  We had gone by it several times, but never stopped.  It’s a fun store to walk through – that is if you have a lot of energy.  This place is huge!

For lunch, we decided on Montana’s – good food and a friendly place.

I started with pot roast soup – so good.  The Caesar salad was also great – I ate half and gave the rest to Bruce.  He said it was one of the better salads that he has had when eating out.

We’ve Got Bread!

But I’m still looking for that perfect recipe.  When I was little, my Aunt Jennie would bake bread every Sunday and send a loaf home with my dad.  It was so good.  My sister says it was molasses bran bread.  She once had the recipe, but now doesn’t have any idea where it is.  I’ve searched the net, have found a few recipes, but haven’t tried any yet.  The other day we made (yep, Bruce & I) made Anadama bread – old New England favorite.

Oh, I forgot to also post a picture of the pizza we made!  The crust was perfect, but I’m still not satisfied with the sauce.

Welcome 2013!

Time to catch up with what is going on.  Our new year’s eve was quiet, didn’t even make it to midnight.

I bought a new stand mixer – it was on sale, $100 off.  Now how can anyone pass that up.  We’ve made cookies, those WWII molasses oatmeal cookies that I made before Christmas by hand.  Another recipe was meatloaf – so easy.  Usually my hand gets cold from mixing the cold ingredients.  Not this time!  I love it – my next attempt will be pizza dough.

And we’ve had more snow – seems it just keeps coming.

Yesterday, I tried Shirley’s recipe for enchiladas.  Definitely a keeper and we’ll be making it again.
