Did You Think Arizona Didn't Get Snow?

We were disappointed that our Monday evening plans fell through with Barb and Doug - they are fun and it would have been great to get together with them while in Vegas. But we had plans to head to the Grand Canyon on Tuesday. Heading east out of Las Vegas, the scenery was nondiscript - it looked much like the sand pits I had played in as a kid in New England - just piles of dirt and rock. Traffic was heavy with tractor trailers and at one point rounding a bend, we came to a complete stop. As far as you could see, there were trucks and cars.

Further up the road, we saw what had caused our delay. Cruisers and a flat bed were already there to pick up the overturned vehicle.

In Williams, Arizona, the town was busy removing piles of snow that had fallen the night before. We were amazed - what had happened to our 'warm, sunny vacation'?

Did I mention we traveled parts of Historic Route 66?

Heading towards Grand Canyon Village.

We stayed at the Bright Angel Lodge. The parking lot hadn't been plowed, sidewalks hadn't been shoveled. Getting into the lodge to register was difficult - I was terrified that I'd slip and fall. But we registered, found our room and were quite happy with our accommodations. We could look out our back window and see the Grand Canyon. As a matter of fact, we took most of our pictures from that window.
