Again, since we were so close to Asheville from Gatlinburg, we took the back roads – again going through the Smokey Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway. What beautiful scenery. We ran into some fog, but the views were breathtaking.
Of course before heading out, we stopped for a nice breakfast.
It was a beautiful day . . .
The higher the altitude, visibility was less than perfect. Here we are at 5,572 feet. Almost as high as Mt. Washington in New Hampshire.
In Asheville, we saw a little art work.
And we stopped at a restaurant which was close to our motel – this is my meal.
And our room – Bruce said this was the best place we stayed at during our vacation. A new king size mattress had just been placed into the room – it was so comfortable.
A computer table . . .
Front deck . . .
Notice that the deck was built around two trees.
This is the cabin where Robert Mitchum stayed in during the filming of “Thunder Road.”
This is Susie with Bruce – what a nice lady she is. She took us around the grounds explaining it’s history.
A little cheese and Kielbasa?
At night, the lights came on – each cabin had a string of white lights to light up the night.
That’s me – working the computer!
Map of the motel’s grounds and the story about “Thunder Road.”
Next, our visit to The Biltmore.
